What is matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder, which is made from tea leaves. Unlike regular tea, matcha is not steeped, but stirred in water – and so the entire tea leaf is drunk.

Active substances and effects

Matcha contains caffeine, but thanks to the amino acid L-theanine, caffeine is released gradually - alertness without nervousness and without an „energy crash“ after the effect wears off.

L-theanine supports alpha-waves in the brain - a feeling of calm concentration, often described as „relaxed energy“.

Matcha is rich in catechins (especially EGCG) – powerful antioxidants that help protect cells from oxidative stress.

It has a high chlorophyll content because the leaves grow in the shade – it helps neutralise free radicals and supports antioxidant processes.

Properties

Moya Matcha Culinary is a high-quality green tea from Japan. It is obtained from the 3rd harvest of tea bushes, which are specially shaded from direct sunlight. This ensures it contains more chlorophyll and L-theanine and has a richer, greener colour.

The fresh leaves are then harvested, dried, and ground into a fine powder. Moya Matcha Culinary has a distinct tea flavour with bitterness and astringency. It is the ideal type of matcha for cooking and baking.
