What is kava kava?
Kava kava, commonly known as Kava Kava, is a plant originating from the Pacific islands and is used in many cultures as a traditional relaxing agent.
Traditionally, a paste was made from the root of the plant, mixed with water or coconut milk and prepared as a drink. This grinding was traditionally done by chewing the roots and spitting them out, but is now usually done manually.
Active substances and effects
Kava Kava contains compounds called kavalactones, which are responsible for its effects.
Kavalactones, which make up 3-20% of the dry weight of the plant's root, act on the brain, reducing anxiety and tension while increasing feelings of well-being and relaxation.
It may alleviate depression and improve mood, promote sleep and muscle relaxation.
How to use Kava?
Approx. one teaspoon can be mixed with water, juice or another drink.
For capsules, the recommended daily dosage is once a day, preferably in the evening.
Adverse effects
In some cases, it may cause adverse effects such as drowsiness, nausea and impaired muscle coordination.
